ACCOMMODATION
During the summer months, we stay at the dorms on the University of British Columbia (UBS) campus. Each student has a single room and shares the bathroom with only urban campers (of the same gender).
If you prefer to travel off-season, there are two options:
Homestay: well-curated host families that go to a meticulous police background. These families are used to receiving international students all year round and could be real Canadians or Canadians with different backgrounds, European and Asian being the most popular. This option will always be the most economical, and your students get to stay in 2-3 per house.
Hotel/Residence located in Downtown Vancouver: The location of our off-season residence is privileged. Located just by Robson Street, it is always an excellent choice for your group. To make it more affordable, we suggest booking rooms on quad occupancy, which means 3 to 4 students get to share the same room (Queen Beds), and sometimes we get a room with five single beds. This Hotel option is very popular and needs to be booked up to 12 months in advance. If you have your dates figured out, let us know ASAP so we can make arrangements accordingly.

There are many summer camps to choose from. What makes you different?
You are right. Canada offers hundreds of summer camps. It is essential to ask yourself what you want your students to achieve.
We have the WOW Factor.
This exciting program takes ESL education to another level and gives your students the foundations of technology and digital skills needed to find better opportunities in future endeavours. During two weeks at The Urban Camp, your students will be able to write, speak and understand everyday phrases people use in life; at the same time, they identify the latest trends in the Tech industry. You and your group will be able to leave Canada with new vocabulary, listening and writing skills, and identifying personal qualities, strengths and weaknesses. Therefore practicing English in an immersive way is not only fun, but you will see more positive results than studying from a book in a classroom.
What differentiates The Urban Camp from the big ESL schools?
You need to ask yourself what brings you more value to your students. To attend an ESL school and sit down in a close group (or not) and learn from a book or like we said before, The Urban Camp takes ESL education to another level and gives your students the foundations of technology and digital skills needed to find better opportunities in future endeavours. During two weeks at The Urban Camp, your students will be able to write, speak and understand everyday phrases people use in life; at the same time, they identify the latest trends in the Tech industry. Therefore practicing English in an immersive way is not only fun, but you will see more positive results than studying from a book in a classroom.
Do you also offer English camps only?
While we are NOT an ESL school, we take our clients’ wishes very seriously. That is why we can tailor-make your desired program. We can run programs focusing more on English language learning. But we will do it differently by focusing on an immersive experience rather than the traditional classroom and book environment. This is not a whim; it is scientifically proven the effectiveness of learning immersively versus learning from a book. It depends on factors such as the learner’s preferences, the nature of the subject, the available resources, and the desired outcomes. In many cases, a combination of both approaches can be beneficial. For example, you might learn a book’s theoretical foundations and reinforce your knowledge through immersive experiences like workshops, projects, or practical applications.
Ultimately, the key is adapting your learning approach based on what works best for your students and the specific skills or knowledge you aim to acquire.
I don't think my student's English is good enough to attend this programs. Can they still join?
We would love to have you and your students in our programs. Let’s have a virtual call and see the general English levels.
You can always take a minimum of 20 lessons of English pre-program with our instructors online. These lessons are live from Canada and are delivered in a safe and low-key environment, so you and your students can feel free to learn until you feel confident and comfortable joining this unique experience. Don’t worry; we will ensure you reach an A2 level and prepare you for the camp in Canada!
Are my students going to be able to mingle with students from the other camps?
Yes! But that depends on when you wish to travel.
If you travel during off-season, your group will most likely always be together. Unless you choose to join Whistler in the winter months or join us at our summer camp, we ensure each camper gets two know two campers from other programs daily. Plus, your students can mingle with Asian, European, Central and South American students and Canadian and American students during our time on campus, during meals at the cafeteria and in Whistler! There are many chances to meet other campers!
Can students take English during winter or any other season?
Yes. Our programs are designed to be run during any season.
I have families interested in sending two, three children to your programs. Do we get a family discount?
Yes. As long as you buy the programs directly with us. We can make that happen. Families can save 5% per children. Get in touch with us, and we can send you a quote.
Do you have any Education Agents/Consultants you can recommend?
Yes! We do!
We understand some schools prefer to hire education consultants or agencies to help them with the trip. We recommend honourable, professional and human-centric Agents that align very well with our values. Please send us an email to edna@theurbancamp.com to request an introduction to any of our agents.
Where do the students stay while in Vancouver?
We have different options:
During the summer months, we stay in the dorms on the University of British Columbia (UBC) campus. Each student has a room and shares a bathroom with only fellow urban campers (same gender).
If you prefer to travel off-season, there are two options:
Homestay: well-curated host families that go to a meticulous police background. This Hotel option is very popular and needs to be booked up to 12 months in advance. If you have your dates figured out, let us know ASAP so we can make arrangements accordingly.
I heard you do a culinary tour for dinner. What does this mean?
During the summer, we have some dinners on campus so our Urban Campers can mingle with students from other nationalities; however, we also go out and take our students to try different cuisines. We have visited Hawaiian, Indian, Thai, Japanese, Ukrainian and Greek restaurants. Our Urban Campers love them all!
Our students are more art and design oriented. Do you have any programs that focuses more on the artistic side?
Yes, we do! We can tailor-make anything.
We have quoted a Dance Summer Program, for example. Just let us know your needs, and we can happily develop a program that suits your needs.
We were victims of a fraud before the pandemic. It is getting difficult to trust any institution abroad. We are scared and nervous.
We hear you. We know what happened to your school and many others, and we are sorry about it.
We are a registered and incorporated company in British Columbia, Canada, and we have been working with different institutions locally and internationally, consistently delivering with professionalism and ethics. We try to be part of various associations to get accredited and make you feel more confident in choosing us. However, all accreditations cost thousands of dollars. While we are still a Startup, we select our associations carefully to spend the money on our clients more than trying to be part of “a game” that makes other people more prosperous. We care about you and your students. Currently, we are part of the Greater Vancouver Board of Trade. The board selected us after a careful study and background check of The Urban Camp. And we are here for you. You are considering sending your students to Canada to try something new and innovative; congratulations! We will guide you through the process until you feel confident. We have a guide complete of DOs and DONTs to help you throughout the process. Rest assured that your students will enjoy, grow, and return home more confident and independent. We trust you, and hopefully, you trust us as well.
Some of our students are very shy, an introvert and have difficulties making friends. Since the pandemic, they have preferred to stay in their rooms rather than hanging out with friends. Will this program help them?
We completely understand and are here to support your families and students. We have been hosting teenagers with the same difficulties, and the good news is that they arrive shy, some wanting to return to their country two days after arriving in Canada. Still, after days 3-5, we noticed a significant change. They all start feeling a sense of empowerment and self-esteem. They know their circumstances; we teach them how to live in the NOW, enjoy what they are experiencing, and teach them gratitude. They have been responsible and attend all classes and workshops; they are trying to make friends. By the end of the program/camp, they all feel happy, energized, empowered, secure, and accomplished, and of course, they want to stay in Vancouver.
